A prisoner of war fruitwood and inlaid sewing box, Fort Napier, 1916
rectangular, the hinged lid inlaid with a rose and the initials 'HA', the interior with a removable tray fitted with lidded and open compartments, the cover painted with 'Fort Napier, 1916, 3398', on a stepped base, lacking key, 11,5cm high, 32cm wide, 22,5cm deep
Notes
From October 1914 to late 1919, Fort Napier was used as an internment camp for about 2,500 German nationals from the then German South West Africa and from all over the Union of South Africa. It was the sole internment camp for German men in Southern Africa during World War I.
