About this Item
Leeuwenkuil, meaning ‘Lion’s Lair’, is owned by Willie and Emma Dreyer. Situated in the Swartland, the farm dates back to 1693. When Willie and Emma began building Leeuwenkuil it was 45 hectares of vineyards but today comprises of 1,250 hectares. At Leeuwenkuil they follow a sustainable farming approach with as little interference as possible. Leeuwenkuil offers staggering value in general and caused a stir when their 2013 Shiraz was given a 92-point score in Decanter.

Critics Ratings
‘Remarkable 2013 without the stalky touch of 2012. Full, spicy generosity speaks even more of dry stones and warm scrubby hillsides than of intense dark fruit. Powerful but exquisite, succulent tannins guard the fruit to emerge in years to come. Lingers for ages.’ - Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2016, 5*
‘As it was last year, this is among the best Syrahs in the Cape, although it has considerably less whole bunch fermentation than the 2012. Intense, deeply coloured and pepper spicy, with overtones of cola and bramble, fine tannins, smooth tannins and a herbal, spicy finish. Drink: 2016-23.’ - Tim Atkin, SA Special Report 2016, 95/100
