About this Item

2013 Koetshuis Sauvignon Blanc
6 (1 x 6) 750ml

The De Grendel farm, situated on the slopes of Tygerberg Hill, dates back to 1720 with the first owner Claas Meyboom. In 1891, Dawie Graaff, the mayor of Cape Town, bought De Grendel farm and it has been in the Graaff family ever since. The first De Grendel wines were made in 2003 from the Graham Beck cellars and, in 2004, De Grendel opened their own wine cellars. With their 330 hectares of land, the Graaff family has a respect for nature and the environment. De Grendel is a member of the Biodiversity and Wine Initiative (BWI), is a carbon-negative farm, uses solar energy and follows water wise principles. In addition to wine farming the estate also does dairy farming.

The De Grendel Koetshuis Sauvignon Blanc was so named because the grapes used to make this wine are grown in the vineyard that sprawls out right next to the old coach house (‘koetshuis’ in Afrikaans) where the wagons of days gone by were once kept. A special vineyard selection is made from high-quality vineyards in Lutzville and Darling, plus a small batch of Semillon from De Grendel Vineyards.

Critics Ratings

‘2013 is complex and complete. Arresting aromas including lime through peach and pear, also a hint of white pepper. Weightless intensity, wonderfully pure and fresh before a gently salty finish. 70% Darling fruit.’ – Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2014, 4.5*
