About this Item
A British Victorian court sword manufactured by Parfitt & Roberts, Jermyn St, London
with gilt crown pommel and small shell guard with VR monogram and crown, the blade with etched decoration, with brass-mounted leather scabbard, lacking the lower brass section of scabbard, etching worn, the blade 78,5cm long; and a mourning sword, manufactured by Hill Bros., Old Bond Street, London, lacking scabbard, the blade 80cm long

Provenance
The mourning sword was used by Lord de Villiers (1842-1914) at the funeral service of Queen Victoria. He was Lord of Wynberg and Chief Justice of the Cape from 1873-1910. He was knighted in 1877. He was an important negotiator with the British before, during and after the Boer War.
