A massive Japanese lacquered, ivory and Shibayama-inlaid footed charger, Edo period, 1615-1868
decorated in high relief with a mother-of-pearl hawk perched on a flowering peony branch, with magnolia and chrysanthemum blooms, its claw clenched around a small bird, with three further birds circling, the foliage in gold takamakie, on a black ground, chips to the rim, 88,5 cm diameter
