Critics Ratings
Boekenhoutskloof Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon 2014:
‘Sleek, supple and structured 2014, also with a dash of Cabernet Franc, all Helderberg fruit. Elegant, with cocoa-tinged blue and black fruit. Lighter, leaner, less muscular and dense than the Franschhoek version. Oak (60% new) a spicy, nutty presence. Great persistence.’ - Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2017, 4.5*
‘A first release of a Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon from Boekenhoutskloof, sourced from four parcels on the Helderberg, all of them planted with new, unvirused clones. Rich, complex and well balanced, this is a very stylish debut, showing subtle spices, pure blackberry fruit and impressive focus.’ - Tim Atkin SA Special Report 2016, 94/100
'A rock-solid Cabernet, with a core of red currant paste and warm raspberry coulis flavors, woven with light savory and iron notes. The finish is nicely polished and the toast well-integrated. The fruit sails through. Debut vintage for this bottling. Drink now through 2022.' - James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 92/100 (Mar 2017)
Boekenhoutskloof Franschhoek Cabernet Sauvignon 2014:
'Densely layered, with flavors of red currant preserves, raspberry paste and bitter plum coulis. Stays refined, as fine-grained tannins and subtle cedar and singed vanilla notes are nicely embedded throughout. Reveals a pretty flash of iron at the very end. Best from 2018 through 2024.' - James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 92/100 (Jun 2018)
'Adds origin to name. Delicacy & power commingle on 2014, mostly brought-in Valley fruit, splash home-farm cab franc. Brooding black cherry, cassis & cocoa are harmoniously supported by all-new French oak, down from 2013’s 25 months to 18. Velvety & refined.' - Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2017, 4.5*
