About this Item

2009 Lady May
3 (1 x 3) 1500ml

Owner of famous Bordeaux Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, May de Lencquesaing, decided in 2003 to make her life-long dream a reality and she purchased an estate in Stellenbosch. Continuing with the French tradition in the area, major re-investment took place with the objective to produce award-winning wines that are full of power, grace and elegance. Much work has gone into the vineyards, cellar and winemaking but, more notably, their old-world patience has contributed to the wines. The winery is environmentally friendly and the vineyards are managed with minimal intervention and sustainable techniques.

In collaboration with cellar master, Luke O’Cuinneagain, this is their flagship red from the finest 2009 vintage. It is sourced from a cool east-facing slope, producing an elegant, distinguished and venerable wine, just like its owner.

Critics Ratings

'Grace & style defined. Mainly cab, dash petit Verdot, individual 2009 is a carefully composed ensemble, all the components – pure berry fruit, clean oak, fine tannins, fresh acid, supportive 14.8% alc – contribute, none dominate, in textury sensory splendour.’ - Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2012, 5*

'Tight, compact and dense, this should continue to evolve with time, easily through 2020. Deep, heady aromas of blackberry, cassis, black plum, tobacco leaf, leather and licorice dance in the bouquet. The palate starts off ripe and juicy, with fresh black-fruit flavors that give way to spicy notes of black tea, licorice root and charred cedar on the long finish. It's structured and gripping, with fine yet powerful tannins and good concentration.' - Lauren Buzzeo, Wine Enthusiast, 93/100 (Jul 2014)

'Racy, vibrant and distinctive, with a mouthwatering core of plum, red and black currant and blackberry fruit laced with licorice snap, singed tobacco leaf and charcoal. The long, tangy finish courses along with ample drive. Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2016.' - James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 92/100 (Dec 2012)
