Charles Mingus (1922–1979) was an American jazz musician. His work integrated "loosely composed passages with improvised solos" and as a double bassist, pianist, composer and bandleader, he "both shaped and transcended jazz trends of the 1950s, ’60s, and ’70s" (https://www.britannica.com/biography/Charles-Mingus).
