Painted by Robert Broadley for Major General B F Armstrong DSO, commanding officer of the 5th South African Brigade in the Western Desert Campaign in North Africa during World War II. The work depicts Major General Armstrong's office overlooking the courtyard when he was stationed in the Castle, Cape Town.
