Notes
The present lot was painted near the confluence of the Limpopo and Shashi rivers on the northern border of South Africa, where the farms Schroda and Greefswald abutt. Today both farms are part of the Mapungubwe National Park.
Pierneef painted frequently in the area in the 1930s as Schroda belonged to his friend Gerard Moerdyk, the architect of the Voortrekker Monument.
Pierneef and Erich Mayer undertook a painting trip to the farm in 1932.
With thanks to Gerard de Kamper for assistance with cataloguing this lot.
