About the Session"The works of Linn Ware (founded in 1943), and those of its predecessor at the Olifantsfontein site, Ceramic Studio (founded in 1925), bear testimony to the creative vision of a group of women whose original vision set the standard for domestic and decorative pottery in South Africa in the mid-twentieth century. Linn Ware is renowned for the consistent quality of its ceramics, and is almost synonymous with deep, rich and sumptuous green and turquoise glazed wares. These potteries, along with Globe (founded in Pretoria c.1920), paved the way for subsequent potteries in the quest to articulate a contemporary South African pottery canon."

compressed ovoid body, the cover with button final, chips, painted CERMAIC STUDIO 1935, 7cm high; and a Linn Ware blue and green-glazed bowl, raised on a low foot, chip, painted LINN WARE, 15cm diameter; a Linn Ware sugar bowl and cover, the cylindrical body raised on stepped conforming foot, glazed in shaded of celadon and russet, the cover with spire-shaped finial, cracks, chips, impressed dish mark, 10,2cm high; a Globe green and brown-glazed jar and cover, ovoid body with tapering sides, the cover with button-shaped finial, impressed Globe, 16,4cm high; and a South African ceramic bowl and cover, glazed in shades of celadon and brown, 9,5cm high
