About this Item
Founded in 1682, Rustenberg Estate on the Simonsberg foothills is one of the most historic and picturesque farms in South Africa. The farm was previously split into two estates, until 1945 when industrialist Peter Barlow purchased both farms and reunited them. Rustenberg is family-owned with son of Peter Barlow, Simon, owning the estate and grandson, Murray (2 x Diners Club Young Winemaker of the Year) now cellar master.
Their flagship wine is named after Peter Barlow and is a site-specific 100% Cabernet Sauvignon high up on the Simonsberg. It is the oldest vineyard on the estate.

Critics Ratings
‘Legendary Cape Cabernet Sauvignon (originally ‘Rustenberg Cabernet’) now from nearly 20 year old Simonsberg vineyard. Bright, bold ‘04 mid-2006 still a restless youth; ultra-ripe fruit swathed in protective tannin but freshening acid should allow for lengthy, necessary slumber, eventual grand maturity.' - Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2007, 4.5*
‘Deep ruby-red. Pure, perfumed aromas of cassis, minerals, licorice and flowers. Extremely primary wine, entering the mouth with subtlety, then building inexorably in silky texture, concentration and power. Wonderfully spicy and penetrating, finishing with noble, sweet tannins and superb persistence. A great wine in the making, but still an infant.’ - Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, 93+/100 (Mar 2007)
