About this Item
Situated on the scenic slopes of the Helderberg mountain, Rust en Vrede is one of Stellenbosch’s oldest estates, dating back to 1694 and is today owned by Jean Engelbrecht. The fine Helderberg terroir produces concentrated and highly celebrated reds.
The rich vintage of 2003 won a Veritas Double Gold as well as the Trophy for best red at the Winemakers Choice Awards. The labels were in a envelope when we received the wine and we proceeded to stick the labels on by hand.

Critics Ratings
‘Most recent releases of this prestigious cab-led blend to us somewhat less lustrous than pvs (though 02 rated 90 pts by WS). Current 03 usual seamless ensemble (60/30/10 cab/shiraz/merlot) but quieter, more pointedly fresh, unusually dense, oaky sweetness & tannins. 23 months French/American barrels, mainly new. 14.7% alc.’ – Platter’s SA Wine Guide (2007)
‘(Cabernet sauvignon with 30% shiraz and 10% merlot) Saturated, deep ruby-red. Tight nose suggests cassis, minerals, liquorice and sexy oak. Juicy, firm and primary; quite tightly wound and less pliant than the 2002 cabernet. But this wine's very intense dark fruit flavors suggest it will reward four or five years of aging. Plenty of oak tannins on the finish.’ – Stephen Tanzer 89+/100, Vinous.com (2007)
