A staple of the SA wine scene, Zonnebloem was first established in 1692 in Simondium near Paarl before Distell took over in 1963. Zonnebloem, meaning sunflower, uitilise benchmark varietal features, sensible use of wood where relevant resulting in wines that are often unflashy yet simply spectacular.
The 1982 was a standout vintage of the 80s and it remains in fantastic condition today, especially from 5litre.
Critics Ratings
'Looking younger in the Magnum. Impressive dark hue. Dusty top notes include nettle and pencil lead, with some black olives and currants. Drying finish. Cellar worthy. Drink now to 2030'. – Higgo Jacobs 90 points (2019)
