Lot 164

Kanonkop
Cabernet Sauvignon, 1990
12 (2 x 6) 750ml
Often described as the South African equivalent of a Grand Cru or First Growth, Kanonkop Estate is situated on the Simonsberg mountain slopes on the outskirts of Stellenbosch. Owned by the fourth generation Krige family, Abri Beeslaar is their long-term winemaker who has won International Winemaker of the year an incredible 3 times. Renowned for decades of ageing, Kanonkop’s Cabernet Sauvignon is austere when young and ages with grace.

'100% Cabernet. These generally sturdy, long-lived cabernets, deriving richness and power – rather than smooth elegance – from excellent, mature vines and consistent cellar treatment … 1990 surprisingly good – though more one-dimensional – for the vintage.’ - Platter’s SA Wine Guide 1994, 4*
