History was made in 1714 when Christina Stans, widow of the first owner, planted 60,000 vines on the rolling hills of Meerendal. Meerendal is home to one of the 4 oldest Pinotage blocks in SA, planted in 1955. Much like the 70s, the even vintages are the standouts from the 80s, with 1982 being probably the finest of them all.
Critics Ratings
‘1982 also very (13,2% alc) alcoholically but lean, thinner in texture, burdened by pungent odours, same as ’83: gamey wine.’ Platter’s SA Wine Guide 1992, 3*
