Notes
The current owner was a family friend of the artist and asked him about the possibility of seeing wildebeest on a beach. His response was: "That is what I saw, and that is what I painted!" According to Eloff, he and his tutor Walter Battiss were on an excursion to the Transkei Wild Coast at the time and often saw wildebeest on the beaches.
A signed copy of the book Die Kuns van Zakkie Eloff by DM Joubert (Vlaeberg, 1992) accompanies the lot.
