Notes
Fée Halsted, joint-winner of the Standard Bank Young Artist Award in 1990, is best known as the creative force behind the famed and much-loved Ardmore Ceramic Studio. The present lot, however, from 1979, is an early student work from her time at the University of Natal. It shows a mesmerizing, ever-reflecting pool, interpreted with sinuous lines of turquoise and calligraphic flicks in in teal and the electric rendition of the water, offset by the drying, concrete slabs and tired, sagging fence.
