A Chinese Export gilt and black lacquer work box, 19th century
the hinged sarcophagus-shaped top decorated with a chinoiserie panel of figures at various pursuits, enclosed by borders of flowerheads, butterflies and foliage, enclosing a detachable tray with fitted compartments, in sizes, four slopes, the lower half with a frieze drawer enclosing a hinged compartment, with further open compartments and divisions, in sizes, the sides applied with carrying handles, raised on paw feet to the front and bracket feet to the back, the lacquer with distress, 15cm high, 35,5cm wide, 25cm deep with later needlework bone sewing accoutrements including needles, bobbins and small covered compartments
