About this Item

Margaux, 2009
5 (1 x 5) 750ml

Château Rauzan-Ségla's history dates back to 1661 when it was founded by Pierre de Rauzan. Apart from Rauzan-Ségla, Pierre de Rauzan was also involved in Château Margaux, Château Latour, Pichon Lalande and Pichon Baron. Rauzan-Ségla became famous world-wide, even having Thomas Jefferson purchases several cases of the wines. After changing hands through various owners, Rauzan-Ségla was sold in 1994 to, the Wertheimer brothers – the owners of Chanel. Organic practices since 2012 (Not Certified).

Organic Farming
Farmed and made according to organic practices. Main reason for not being certified is to allow for intervention should it be deemed necessary to maintain production.
Self-regulated application of the below practices in vineyard and/or cellar.
No use of synthetic fertilisers, pesticides, or herbicides. Use of certain cover crops, methods of soil care, and other specified vineyard care.
Wine made according to strict standards - use of approved, organic yeast, and no added sulfites or other specified additives. Does not imply that the wine is vegan (allows for specified fining agents (including egg whites) and enzymes). In certain regions this is extended to chaptalisation and acid addition.

Critics Ratings

‘Deep garnet colored, the 2009 Rauzan-Ségla bursts from the glass with bold, vivacious Black Forest cake, blackberry pie and warm blueberry scents plus nuances of cardamom, candied violets, smoked meats and Chinese five spice with a waft of dusty soil. Full-bodied, rich, plush and decadent, it completely coats the palate with densely packed preserved black berries layers, finishing very long and spicy. The blend this year is 58% Cabernet Sauvignon and 42% Merlot, harvested between September 22nd and October 11th, at an average yield of 41 hectoliters per hectare. It was aged for 18 months in French oak, 50% new. The alcohol is 14%, and the pH is 3.69. Drink 2020 - 2035.’ – Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate, 94/100 (Apr 2020)

‘The 2009 Rauzan-Ségla has a very fine bouquet with tightly packed blackberry and wild strawberry fruit, melted tar and pencil shavings, leaning a little towards Saint-Julien in style (like the Giscours.) The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, gorgeous red berry fruit laced with all spice and cumin, gently fanning out towards the grippy but precise finish that is pure class. This is the best bottle that I have encountered, though the less said about the late Karl Lagerfeld's designed label the better! Tasted at BI Wines & Spirits Ten Year On tasting. Drink 2021 - 2040.’ – Neal Martin, Vinous, 94/100 (Mar 2019)
