A Scottish mahogany and inlaid longcase clock, A & Wm Miller, Airdrie, first half 19th century
the 36,7cm painted dial signed ARCHd & Wm. MILLER, AIRDRIE, with black Roman numerals, calendar and seconds dial, the spandrels painted with vignettes representing the four Continents, Africa, America, Asia and Europe, the arch painted with a scene of two gentleman enjoying a drink attended by the tavern host and waitress, with pierced hands, rack and bell striking movement, the case with swan neck cresting and gilt brass rose terminals centred by a turned brass finial, above panels of satinwood, the crossbanded trunk with spiral-shaped paterae, the sides with pierced foliate motifs, on a panelled plinth and shaped apron, 228cm high
