Established in 1814 on Madeira Island, Miles Madeira is one of the oldest and most respected brands of Madeira wine worldwide. Over the years, as the business was passed down from generation to generation, Miles Madeira became one of the top producers in Madeira. Today, Miles is part of the Blandy family's Madeira Wine Company and is synonymous with excellent Madeira wine made from the Tinta Negra grape variety on the rich and diverse terroirs of this volcanic island.
Madeira Bual (or Madeira Boal) is a category of fortified wine made under Portugal's Madeira DOC, specifically from grapes of the Bual/Boal vine variety. Madeira Bual is typically sweeter than Madeira Sercial or Madeira Verdelho, but not quite as intensely sweet as Malmsey.
Boal is the original Portuguese form of a name used for various Portuguese grape varieties, while the English form Bual is generally used just for the variety grown on Madeira. All Madeira ages well, but Madeira Bual can outlive almost any other wine.
