Strauss & Co is proud to announce the sale of two extremely rare oil paintings by the celebrated nineteenth-century landscape painter Thomas Bowler (1812–69).
Strauss & Co visits the Regina Mundi Church in Soweto to reunite Larry Scully’s ‘The Madonna and Child of Soweto’ paintings, in what is one of South Africa’s most symbolic and moving settings.
Comprising nearly 150 lots, this landmark once-off sale, will feature over 100 examples of Muafangejo’s masterful linocut prints, as well as a large consignment of 36 original (but cancelled) lino blocks. Orde Levinson, a noted art collector and scholar of Muafangejo, is the sole consignor to this sale, the first-ever devoted to a single artist by Strauss & Co.
