Strauss & Co is delighted to announce the start of its 2022 sales programme with a multi-part series of online-only sales featuring superb consignments from its decorative arts, wine and fine art departments.
The late-modernist artist Robert Hodgins takes centre stage at Strauss & Co’s Cape Town Auction Week, a four-day programme of auctions from 18 to 21 September.
Johannesburg: Strauss & Co’s November Auction Week offers a curated selection of South African modern and contemporary art from the early 1900s to the present across multiple auctions. Auction Week runs from 17 to 19 November 2025, with daily public viewing. The week begins with the sale of a rare suite of 15 early wildlife drawings by William Kentridge commissioned in 1985 for Mobil’s Cape Town headquarters
Strauss & Co is pleased to announce details of its first sale of 2021, due to be held online from 15 to 22 February. Highlights from the art department include a remarkable 1949 drawing of Walter Battiss meeting Pablo Picasso, a delightful 2002 balloon sculpture by Jeff Koons and an early figure drawing by Nelson Makamo.
The catalogue for Strauss & Co’s forthcoming three-day live sale of fine wine and modern, post-war and contemporary art bears testimony to the role of passion, research, discernment and time in collecting. The sale commences on Sunday, 16 May with a session devoted to a single-owner collection of fine wines from Bordeaux, Burgundy, Alsace and Champagne. Over the following two days Strauss & Co will be offering paintings acquired by the late entrepreneur Toy Mostert, three sculptures from the Afrox Corporate Art Collection and two pieces formerly owned by art historian Esmé Berman.
The historical town of Stellenbosch, which features some of the finest examples of Cape Dutch architecture, boasts a winemaking tradition which stretches back to the end of the 17th-century.
The excellent results achieved by Strauss & Co from the virtual live sale of the Professor Leo Strydom and the David Hall collections, once again demonstrated the company’s mastery in handling the sale of single-owner collections.
