Venice, Paris, Stellenbosch – Travelling Sekoto Returns Home
Join Lizelle Kilbourn, art collector and philanthropist, as she explores the significance and legacy of Gerard Sekoto, one of South Africa’s pioneering Black Modernist Artists.
Lizelle will share insights into Sekoto’s influence within the context of Paris Noir: Artistic Articulations and Anti-Colonial Resistance, 1950 – 2000 – the groundbreaking Centre Pompidou exhibition that showcased 150 artists from Africa, the Americas, and the Caribbean, many of whom exhibited in France for the first time. Drawing from her experience as a lender to the exhibition as well as to Adriano Pedrosa’s 2024 Venice Biennale Foreigners Everywhere, Lizelle provides a unique perspective on Sekoto’s international acclaim and his lasting impact on modern art.
