Museum Moments: Walter Battiss Art Museum
The Walter Battiss Museum opened in 1981, one year before Battiss’s death. The building is the former Lord Charles Somerset Barracks, also the third address of the Battiss family in Somerset East. Battiss donated close to 60 works that still adorn the walls of this unique house museum. Curator Ros Turner discusses the significance of the museum, its holdings and its various activities and services with Wilhelm van Rensburg, Senior Art Specialist at Strauss & Co.
