In 1946, Maggie Laubser received the Honorary Medal for Art from the South African Academy for Science and Arts. In the same month, she met art dealer Dr Helmut Silberberg. Over the next twenty years, he handled her affairs, as circumstances required. Eventually, he became the sole buyer of almost 100 of her paintings in a single transaction.
