Winner’s Announcement and Champagne Brunch

You are invited to join Strauss & Co for a champagne brunch and for the winner’s announcement of the Cassirer Welz Art Prize for 2026.

Presented in association with Bag Factory Artists’ Studios, the Cassirer Welz Art Prize is one of South Africa’s most respected awards celebrating emerging contemporary artists from across the Sub-Saharan region. Established in 2011 by Nobel Laureate Nadine Gordimer in honour of her late husband Reinhold Cassirer, and later renamed to also honour Stephan Welz, the award recognises artistic excellence while supporting the next generation of African creative talent.

The prize provides the winning artist with a prestigious residency at Bag Factory Artists’ Studios, including mentorship, professional development opportunities, curatorial support, and a solo exhibition. Over the past fifteen years, the award has helped launch the careers of many acclaimed contemporary artists working across painting, sculpture, drawing, textile and mixed media practices.
