Strauss & Co is proud to be exhibiting The Boerneef Collection from 8 July – 18 August at our viewing rooms in Cape Town.

The Poet and linguist known as ‘Boerneef’, the late prof I.W. van der Merwe, donated a large selection of his well-loved paintings of (now well-known) South African Artists, as well as a large number of books, to Hoërskool Jan van Riebeeck. These more than 60 paintings, known as “Die Boerneef Kunsversameling” and the book collection are housed at Welgemeend. The art collection is displayed throughout the various spaces (rooms) in Welgemeend. A special ‘art hanging system’ was installed in 2014, so that the various paintings and sketches can be easily put up or taken down from the walls. The art is rotated and changed from time to time in order to keep the display fresh, and the Boerneef works are temporarily taken down for limited periods when special exhibitions (such as during August Art Month) are held.
