Join us for a captivating glimpse of South Africa’s remarkable, varied and deep-rooted landscape tradition at the opening of the La Motte Ateljee exhibition, Van Horison tot Horison. By picking out Highveld, Cape and coastal masters – think Wenning, Goodman, Pierneef, Tladi, Sénèque, Stern, Preller and Kentridge – the talk shows how landscape artists have created a beautiful visual archive for the country. Moreover, by focusing on the landscape, local artists have also tracked the country’s socio-political realities. While most of the selected examples come from modernist painters, more contemporary views of the landscape will be contextualised too.
