ART CLUB: Johannesburg
Our upcoming ART CLUB in Johannesburg will see Senior Lecturer in Art Education at the University of Pretoria, Dr Raïta Steyn provide insights into the life and work of the esteemed artist Jackson Hlungwani, offering fresh perspectives on his artistic journey and influences.
Dr Raïta Steyn is a Senior Lecturer in Art Education at the University of Pretoria, focusing on religious art and art education. Her research covers Afro-Byzantine religious art and cultural traditions in Nubia and Ethiopia, and she promotes social awareness and inclusiveness through innovative teaching approaches in Visual Arts. Dr Steyn has authored a book, several book chapters and articles on religious art. She has received multiple awards for her research and teaching, including the Excellence Award for research on Byzantine Art in Africa by the Lyceum Club for Greek Women on at UP and the Leadership and Innovation in Teaching and Learning Award by the Faculty of Education at UP.
