About this Item

Haut-Medoc 2016
6 (1 x 6) 750ml
The 2016 Bordeaux vintage is widely hailed as one of the greatest of the 21st century, defined by near-perfect growing conditions and often regarded as a benchmark year. 2016 is a must-buy vintage for collectors.

Cantemerle 2016 received strong scores from major critics and is widely praised for its balance, precision and ageing capacity - all qualities that attract sustained demand. The wine is Cabernet Sauvignon dominant, with smaller amounts of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, and is made in a structured but fruit-driven style.

Critics Ratings

‘Plenty of menthol, blackberry and blackcurrant aromas in this elegant, medium-weight Haut-Médoc that’s got as much freshness as ripeness and a long, clean, mineral and herbal finish. An incredibly food-flexible wine! Drink or hold.’ – James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, 94/100 (Feb 2019)

‘Fragrant concentration of earth, violets and iris flowers immediately apparent, continuing on the palate with black tea, cedar, liquorice root, blackberry, slate, campfire. 50hl/h yield. You could open now with a long carafe, but it will continue to age for another decade at least. Great stuff. 40% new oak for ageing, Eric Boissenot consultant, Philippe Dambrine estate director.’ – Jane Anson, janeanson.com, 94/100 (Mar 2025)

‘The 2016 Cantemerle has a comparatively opulent bouquet of black cherries, boysenberry and light violet scents, touches of cedar and sous-bois emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins. There is a touch of greenness here, although it does come across harmonious and there is a pleasing spiciness toward the finish. Fine. Tasted blind at the Southwold tasting. 2022-2045’ – Neal Martin, Vinous, 91/100 (Jan 2020)
