Critics Ratings
2011:
‘Gorgeously pure, offering tangerine, white peach and clementine notes laced with chamomile, orange blossom and honeysuckle flavors. The long, mineral-driven finish has terrific cut and ample citrus oil and singed almond flavors in reserve. Cellar for maximum effect. Best from 2016 through 2022.’ - James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 92/100 (Feb 2015)
‘Melon, citrus fruit and fine cedar oak aromas confidently lead to a palate with notes of almond paste and citrus pith; finished off with a lingering honey/melon perfume. Dollop of Sauvignon adds to the freshness. Great texture, but needs time to meld.’ - Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2014, 4.5*
2012:
‘Quite a floral nose. Tight and green with some beeswax. Low acid. But good tension.’ – Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17/20 (Jan 2015)
‘Gorgeous nectarine and tangerine notes lead the way, followed by creamy-textured persimmon and peach flavors. Shows a racy edge through the finish, with an orange blossom note lingering. Long and pure, and should age well. Drink now through 2023.’ – James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 92/100 (Apr 2015)
‘Marc Kent’s Semillon comes from three vineyards in Franschhoek, one of which was planted in 1899. Waxy, focused and well balanced, with some toast and citrus and a taut, minerally finish. The wine always needs time in bottle to show its full potential. Drink: 2015-22’ - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2015, 92/100
‘Maintaining the standard, bunch-pressed, barrel-fermented 2012 impresses with complexity & integration of fruit & oak (100% new). Cashew nut cream vies with lively citrus & nectarine notes. Full bodied yet fresh from dab sauvignon. Needs time, as did 2011.’ - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2015, 4.5*
