Heir to the Cluny monks, Mommessin has its origins in Southern Burgundy. It was at Grange Saint-Pierre, an old outbuilding of the Abbey of Cluny, that Jean-Marie Mommessin, the company founder, set up the business in 1865. The acquisition of the renowned Clos de Tart Grand Cru in Morey-Saint-Denis in 1932 is the Mommessin 's main claim to fame in Burgundy. The family retained and owned Clos de Tart until 2017 when it was sold to the François Pinault. Today, Mommessin is is a négociant and makes wines from around the south and east of France.

‘Definitely mature looking, but amazingly youthful on the nose. Very fine oak and fruit and a merest hint of sweet beetroot. Lithe and transparent on the palate but with grip. Grainy tannin. Ongoing finish with great freshness.’ - Walter Speller, JancisRobinson.com, 18/20 (Feb 2013)
