About this Item

St Julien, 1978
2 (1 x 2) 750ml

A Saint Julien Second Growth, Chateau Gruaud-Larose has the ability to produce First Growth quality wine but is not well-regarded for consistency. The 1961, 1982 and 1986 remain some of the most remarkable Bordeaux wines of the era. With unique clay soils, Gruaud Larose requires decades of aging to show its best and hallmark elegance.

Critics Ratings

Vigorous with an intense, earthy, blackberry nose. Quite elegant on palate. Much more classy than other Gruaud Laroses with touches of liquorice and iodine. Very smooth mouthfeel and a very fine vintage for the estate.’ - Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, 90/100 (Oct 2001)
