"The gault, as I understand it, is a geological clay formation deposited in the Lower Cretaceous Period, and links to the clay medium of this artwork, but also to the preservation of time, the past, and I guess deep time. Time and time passing are all linked of course to portraiture, wanting to preserve a life, a moment in time.
