Theme: Oasis
The 2026 edition unfolds under the theme Oasis, reflecting on the seeming improbability of this convening, in this place. Johannesburg, established without access to a major body of water, is a city that grew and sustained itself against the odds. Marking 140 years of the city, Oasis considers how creativity, like water, sustains and regenerates life in unexpected environments.
“Mirroring Johannesburg itself, the Fair embraces this spirit of resilience and renewal, affirming the arts’ capacity to nourish, connect and reimagine the cultural landscape. The theme also draws inspiration from the gardens that host the Fair each year, a pocket of green carefully tended within an urban context,” explains Denzo Nyathi, Curator and Head of Sales.
