Vinous Treasures Await at this Year's Nedbank Cape Winemakers Guild Auction

The Nedbank CWG Auction showcases rare and unique wines produced in small quantities exclusively for the auction by its members, a group of highly respected winemakers who hail from appellations across the length and breadth of the Cape winelands. This year’s auction will see a total of 43 wines from 30 guild members on offer. These comprise 14 white wines, 26 red wines, two Cap Classiques and one Cape Tawny.

A total of 513 lots will be sold over the two days – 190 lots on the Friday evening and 323 on the Saturday. All the wines will be offered on both days, with wines available in lot sizes of 12 and 24 bottles on the Friday evening and Saturday morning, but with the addition of 36-bottle lots on the Saturday.

Guests will be able to bid live in person at the auction, to be held at the Lord Charles Hotel in Somerset West, at both the Friday evening and Saturday daytime events. Being a virtual live auction, online, telephonic and commission bidding will also be available. Bidders will only need to register once to bid on both days.

Highlights include:

• The very first single-vineyard Chenin Blanc from the Beaumont cellar in Bot River
• Swartland winemaker David Sadie’s first two wines under the David & Nadia label on the auction
• The first CWG Merlot ever to have been completely made in amphorae and the longest-running Shiraz in auction history from Hartenberg in Stellenbosch
• The first single-variety Pinot Meunier Cap Classique ever released in the country from Stellenbosch estate Simonsig, as well as a Shiraz to celebrate 25 years of having this varietal wine on the auction (their first vintage was 1997 and the current wine is the 2020).
