Marion Dixon
Senior Art Specialist

Marion Dixon possesses that rare combination of extensive corporate experience and practical expertise in art collecting and curating. After a successful 25-year career as a corporate communication and public relations specialist, Marion completed a Master’s degree in art history (awarded with distinction) at the University of the Witwatersrand, in 2009. Her research, supervised by Professor Federico Freschi, focused on changing patterns of corporate art collecting in South Africa between 1964 and 2008. Marion then embarked on a career as freelance art consultant and curator.

Marion’s interest in art is longstanding. Between 1995 and 1997, she studied art history at the University of South Africa, augmenting the scope of her existing Bachelor of Arts (English and German) degree from the University of Natal, Durban. A member of the professional body South African Visual Art Historians since 2007, she curated the exhibition ‘Water: The [Delicate] Thread of Life’ at the Standard Bank Gallery, Johannesburg, in 2011. The exhibition featured works by 30 contemporary South African artists, and was accompanied by a 160-page catalogue. Marion also presented a series of well-received talks at the Standard Bank Gallery, notably for the bank’s flagship exhibition ‘20th Century Masters: The Human Figure’, in 2012. She has consulted for private and corporate clients, including FirstRand Bank.

Marion was also curator of the Constitutional Court Art Collection before joining Strauss & Co as Art Specialist full time in 2016. She works out of our Johannesburg office. Marion is qualified to address any enquiries related to Paintings, Watercolours, Drawings, Prints and Sculpture on behalf of Strauss & Co.
