Kirstie Pietersen
Art Researcher & Cataloguer
Kirstie Pietersen (b.1998, Cape Town) graduated from the University of Cape Town’s Michaelis School of Fine Art in 2022.
Kirstie joined Strauss & Co as an intern in August 2022 and became a full-time art cataloguer and researcher in 2023. With a keen eye for detail and a collaborative approach, Kirstie catalogues works consigned to auction, conducts provenance research and writes up condition reports. Kirstie also assists clients with valuations and supports Strauss & Co’s curatorial projects and educational programmes.
Kirstie is also a practising artist whose work has been included in Greatest Hits at the AVA Gallery (2022), GIRLS, GIRLS, GIRLS at Daor Contemporary, Paper for the Turbine Art Fair (2023) and Offcuts at the AVA Gallery (2024). Mainly using doilies (cast in Plaster of Paris or Casting Stone) and objects found within the home, such as old photo frames and family pictures, her work explores how material culture articulates social aspirations and how identity and culture are formed and projected.
