The sale, which has a combined pre-sale estimate of R80 million, is a celebration of Johannesburg and its many talented artists, curators and collectors. The sale commemorates the city’s important role in shaping South African art history.

Held in partnership with Strauss & Co, the much-anticipated live auction will take place at the museum on Saturday 1 December 2018.

Important works representative of South Africa’s diverse and evolving artistic practices from the twentieth and twenty-first century will go under the hammer at Strauss & Co’s much-anticipated Cape Town sale on 5 March at The Vineyard Hotel. Among the standout lots being offered is an Egyptian-themed architectural drawing by William Kentridge from his 2005 production of Mozart’s The Magic Flute and a vivid still life with coffee utensils and ripening fruit by Erik Laubscher.
