The Strauss Art Hub on the Keyes Art Mile

  10 August 2018     Archived

Strauss & Co is delighted to announce its participation in the form of an Art Hub at the Trumpet Building, located on the Keyes Art Mile in Johannesburg, to coincide with the FNB Joburg Art Fair (6–9 September 2018). This partnership, which is spearheaded by the Keyes Art Mile and coordinated by respected curator Lucy McGarry, includes an extensive education and hospitality programme.

Two senior Strauss & Co specialists, Alastair Meredith and Wilhelm van Rensburg, are scheduled to present talks at the Strauss Art Hub in the Trumpet Building (21 Keyes Ave, Rosebank).

Visitors to the Strauss Art Hub will also be able to view a selection of works consigned for Strauss & Co’s upcoming sales in October (Cape Town) and November (Johannesburg). The exhibition will also include highlights from Strauss & Co’s second standalone Contemporary Art Auction, scheduled to take place in February 2019 in Cape Town.

Dr Meredith, who recently completed his doctoral project on painter Jan Juta, will provide a unique insight into the world of auctions, focusing on the intricacies of consigning, selling and buying on the secondary market. Van Rensburg, a seasoned curator, academic and senior art specialist at Strauss & Co, will discuss his upcoming retrospective exhibition on Christo Coetzee, due to be held at the Standard Bank Gallery, Johannesburg, in October.

“This partnership and our participation in the Strauss Art Hub, form part of our company’s commitment to the growth of the contemporary art market, education and developing new collectors,” says Susie Goodman, an executive director of Strauss & Co, Johannesburg. Strauss & Co is South Africa’s leading auction house and the global leader in the market for South African art.
