Botterblom Collection
About the SessionThe collective of artisans, working at Frances VH Mohair Studio, has created a space where vision, dedication, storytelling and shared purpose coalesce through the power of creative agency and voice. Their latest project, the impactful Botterblom Collection, traces aspects of daily life that pulse through a street in a neighbourhood in Prince Albert. Woven from the dreams, hopes and fears of everyday life, the collection is a celebration of the beauty inherent in imperfection while also showcasing and contributing to material culture. What emerges from the collection is sensual, deeply spiritual and unique work, taking on the name of the street to honour the marks of time embedded in place.

About this Item
Notes
A Karoo nativity play.
The tortoise knows when the moon is high and full because the aardvark
always seems to cross her path exactly at that moment. That moon that
lives so close but dances so far. She stays happy for such a short period,
leaking her moods as she moves. We see her smile and then wink. And
just when you think she is sleeping, she wakes, growing and stretching
out, turning the Karoo into a great lake of light. She is dancing again now,
the aardvark crosses my path. Most impolite when he knows how long I
take to fall into rhythm.
This piece was made for Abraham MacDonald, veld expert and Botterblom homeowner.
He has shared this wisdom, time, friendship, kindness and
stories of the moon and other important creatures with so many.
It is a privilege to have his tales trapped in this work.
