Art valuations by visiting UK expert

6 Mar 2016

International art expert and auctioneer, Dendy Easton, will be in Cape Town this week to provide free valuations and participate in the Strauss & Co auction on March 14th.

Former colleague and associate of the late Stephan Welz, Managing Director of Strauss & Co, Easton’s involvement in the fine art auction world spans 45 years. His career started in 1971 when he spent three years in the paintings department at Bonhams, after which he left to become a dealer in fine art. In 1978 he was lured back into the auction world and joined Sotheby’s where he was in charge of the paintings department at the Sussex salerooms, becoming a director in 1985. In 2001 he moved to Sotheby’s, Olympia, where he ran the picture Department, leaving in 2005 to spend a year studying and travelling. He returned to Sotheby’s in 2006 as a Fine Art Consultant and became freelance in 2009.

Over time Dendy has discovered numerous treasures, including paintings by John Constable, Richard Parkes Bonington and Egon Scheile. He has a wealth of experience in a variety of fields, in particular 19th and 20th century British paintings, his special interest being the Newlyn School, and he is a well respected figure in the art world.

He has been a familiar face on the popular BBC’s Antiques Road Show since 2003, as a picture specialist.

The valuation day takes place on Friday 11 March at The Vineyard Hotel Conference Centre in conjunction with Strauss & Co’s auction preview. Dendy Easton and Strauss & Co’s art specialists will be available to value Modern and Contemporary International and South African art. Please call to make an appointment: 021 683 6560

Dendy Easton is available for interviews.
