Strauss & Co is pleased to announce that its June Interiors: Silver and Furniture timed-online sale is now open. Closing on 22 June 2026, June Interiors: Silver and Furniture brings together an eclectic selection of furniture, silver, ceramics and glass spanning three centuries of craftsmanship and design. Running annually, the auction is a highlight among decorators, interior designers and design enthusiasts, offering up important period pieces from across the globe.

This month’s auctions June Interiors: Silver and Furniture and SA Design Past & Present) are presented within a specially curated gallery space by interior designer Justin Van Breda. The founder of Cape Looms and Craft School South Africa has injected the Strauss & Co showroom with a dose of curated comfort. “I wanted to lead the eye, rather than offer up isolated scenes,” says Justin. Bringing together auction pieces through unexpected connections of texture, form, provenance and materiality, Van Breda’s vignettes unfold against dusty pastel walls hung with prominent artworks.

Silver collectors will be spoiled with an ensemble of nearly 100 lots spanning from the 18th to 20th century, many of them from the iconic Kay’s Antiques shop. “Pioneer businesswoman Kay Derriman started her business with a £100 investment from her aunt and over the next 65 years, it became a household name in fine antique and vintage silverware,” explains Shirley Daniels, silver specialist at Strauss & Co.

Here, an Edward VII epergne (Lot 133, Est R65 000 – R70 000) reveals exceptionally detailed workmanship and a lightness of form. Other highlights include an Edward VII asparagus dish and tongs (Lot 136, Est R64 000 – R68 000) from the late-19th-century American silver tradition, an Irish Edward VII teapot (Lot Est R30 000 – R35 000) with embossed Celtic motif and a Sheffield George V two-handled tray (Lot 104, Est R60 000 – R80 000).

Furniture highlights range from the restrained elegance of Georgian and Neo-classical design to the exuberant ornament of the Rococo revival. A commanding George III style breakfront secretaire bookcase (Lot 1, Est R20 000 – R25 000) stands out for its elegant swan-neck pediment and neat secretaire drawer. Teamed with the characteristically ornate French Rococo gilt-metal ink stand (Lot 54, Est R10 000 – R12 000), the two would bring gravitas to any library or office.

From the same era, a Louis XV parquetry and ormolu-mounted commode (Lot 48, Est R20 000 – R30 000) exemplifies Rococo’s love of ornament and movement through swirling motifs and undulating bombé form. In contrast, the Italian walnut parquetry commode (Lot 47, Est R14 000 – R16 000) channels order and symmetry through its rectilinear Neo-classical lines and relies on workmanship, rather than embellishment, to telegraph its beauty.

The sale also includes a selection of East Asian lots including Chinese blue and white ceramics and furniture pieces. Of particular interest is a six-panel folding screen (Lot 72, Est R10 000 – R12 000) with characteristic gilt-backed flower-and-bird painting and incised lacquer work on the reverse.
